Itinerary

DAY 1: ITINERARY

The day before beginning the tour, you will meet at the storehouse to try on equipment and meet your guide.

We will pick you up in a private car from where you are staying at 8 AM and drive two hours to the base of the Chachani Volcano, located at 4,950 meters. Here, you will begin trekking on well maintained, ancient paths to the base camp located at 5,175 meters.

This part of the climb is almost flat and will not take longer than 2 hours. Upon arriving to the base camp, you will have time to relax and eat your lunch, before eating dinner prepared by your guide and spending the night in a tent. Dinner usually consist of vegetable soup, pasta or chicken and tea. The Chachani base camp offers an unforgettable view of the sunset over the city and the Andes.

Very early in the morning, we will eat breakfast and continue to the top of the Chachani Volcano. Breakfast usually consists of bread, Andean cheese, coffee with milk, and mate. Keep in mind all the meals are light as eating heavy foods make adjusting to the altitude more difficult. To arrive to the top of Chachani, we will climb approximately 900 meters in 6 hours. Depending on the time of the year, it may be necessary to use crampons and ice picks to navigate the path safely.

Upon arriving to the top of the volcano, we will rest and enjoy the views, specifically of the Coropuna, Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Misti, and Ubinas volcanoes. Afterwards, we will begin descending to the base of volcano where our private transportation will be waiting to transport us back to Arequipa.
