The Uyo Uyo ruins tour is the one you need if you are itching to see some pre-Incan ruins and prefer to mix up all the driving with a beautiful two hour hike. You can also decide to hike longer inside the Colca Canyon with our 2/3 days trekk.
You will be picked up from your hotel or hostel in Arequipa’s city center at 4:00am and drive north to Chivay where you will eat breakfast.
We then head west to the Condor Cross located on the rim of the Colca Canyon. You will time to enjoy the views and look for condors flying overhead.
After visiting the Condor Cross, we will make our way back towards Yanque making stops at Antawilke to see pre-Incan terraces, a small colonial town called Maca.
Upon arriving to Yanque, we will we walk for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to visit archeological complex of Uyo Uyo located on the right side of the valley. It was built by the Collaguas people and is said to have functioned as a administration center during the Pre-Inca times. The architecture is very impressive with small streets and water canals surrounded by hundreds of Pre-Incan farming terraces which look like small amphitheaters built into the mountains. Along the trail we will see the locals working the land using ancestral systems and techniques for agricultural production. Also we will get to see the famous qolqas, small deposits or stores carved into the cliffs of the surrounding mountains.
After completing the hike to Uyo Uyo, we will go to the Yanque hot springs to bathe in the hot pools for approximately one hour. Then, we will head to Chivay where we will stop at a local restaurant to eat a buffet lunch.
Finally, we will head back towards Arequipa making two final stops along the way at Patapama and the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. You will be dropped off back at your hotel around 5:30pm.
